Issued: August 14, 2025
Dear New Town Residents,
The City of St. Charles has issued an immediate Boil Water Advisory for all residents and businesses, including our New Town community. This precautionary measure follows a major depressurization event in the water distribution system.
What Happened
A critical water interconnection pipeline, co-owned by the City of St. Charles and the City of St. Peters, was struck and damaged by a private contractor. This caused a significant drop in water pressure. Crews from both cities, along with an emergency contractor, are on-site working to repair the damage.
What You Need to Do
Until further notice, all water used for consumption must be boiled:
-
Bring water to a rolling boil for at least 3 minutes and allow it to cool before using.
-
This applies to water for:
-
Drinking
-
Making ice
-
Brushing teeth
-
Washing dishes
-
Cooking or food preparation
-
You do not need to boil water for bathing, showering, or laundry.
Please also conserve water by avoiding non-essential uses like lawn irrigation, so we can maintain adequate supply for all residents during repairs.
Why This Matters
When water pressure drops, contaminants can potentially enter the system. While no contamination has been confirmed, the advisory is being issued out of an abundance of caution to protect public health.
How Long Will This Last?
Water samples are being tested to confirm safety. We expect an update within 36–48 hours. The advisory will remain in effect until the City announces it is lifted.
